Active authors are not all readers. Message statistics can help select a group for a test, but they do not establish advertising reach or guarantee sales.
Distinguish a group from a channel
Group members talk to one another; channel content is mainly published by its authors. Channel post views cannot be replaced with a group's message count. Even a busy discussion does not tell you how many people will see a specific advertisement.
Read conversations manually. Are potential buyers asking questions, or does the feed consist mostly of providers promoting themselves? A small specialist community may fit your service better than a large general-purpose group.
Read the metrics together
For a fully observed week, divide seven days of messages by seven to obtain a daily average. If collection started yesterday or has gaps, using the same calculation can misleadingly suggest low activity. Label partial coverage separately.
| Metric | Useful for | Does not prove |
|---|---|---|
| Members | Community size at a point in time | Number of active buyers |
| Weekly messages | Observed conversation volume | Ad reach |
| Unique authors | Different accounts that posted | All human readers |
| Daily average | Pace over an observed period | Future activity |
| Repeated adverts | Possible feed noise | Manipulation on its own |
Do not label silent members as fake
People can read without posting. A missing avatar, short name or low posting frequency does not establish that an account is a bot. Technically identified bots and suspicious behavioural patterns are different categories.
Look for repetition, abrupt spikes and concentration among a few authors. These justify closer inspection, not an accusation. An event, promotion or active moderator can also produce an unusual pattern.
Check coverage and placement terms
Use LeadJet's observed activity statistics as one input when comparing sources. Check the period, history availability and when audience data was updated. Do not assume any service can see every message and participant in every group.
Ask the administrator about format, timing, pin duration, deletion and reply rules. Buying an advertisement does not automatically grant unlimited permission to promote yourself in discussions.
- Request comparable placements and an explanation of their metrics.
- Agree on content, links and publishing conditions.
- Define a qualified enquiry before the test.
- Use a separate tracking link or code.
Decide after a small test
Compare spend with qualified enquiries and payments, not just clicks. Cost per enquiry is placement spend divided by the number of those enquiries. With zero enquiries there is no finite cost per enquiry to report; investigate the result instead.
Illustrative example: a group has 2,000 members and 700 observed messages from 140 authors over seven complete days. That is 100 messages a day and 7% of members posting during the week. It is not a 7% human-audience estimate or an ad-view forecast. Assess relevance, then test a modest placement.
